Online Learning Path
Due to In-Person School needs and our partnership with oxford virtual schools we will not be able to allow any chromebooks to be checked out
Kindergarten
All worksheets will be available on Google Classroom and will be sent home in a packet each week that must be picked up by a parent or guardian. All times given are estimates and may take longer or shorter for some students. This is an example of what a day in the online classroom will look like. Parents will also be responsible for testing students at home and will receive more detailed instructions at a later date.
Religion Curriculum:
- One In Christ: 20 minutes
o Show students the “God Created People” picture and ask them, “What are some things you see in the picture?”, “What is your favorite thing that God created?”
o Read your child the attached story “God Created People”
ELA Curriculum:
- Phonics (Vowac): 30 minutes
o Complete introduction poster with your child, review alphabet and practice writing name on tree top worksheet (worksheet will be sent home). Remind student that all written letters should start at the top of the tree.
o Sing the Alphabet song and have student point to each letter as they sing the letter names (Worksheet will be sent home).
o Have student practice writing each letter in the air with their pointer finger.
o Complete any given worksheets
- Reading/Writing: 30-45 minutes
o Watch “The Kissing Hand” by Audrey Penn on Youtube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kXT1ANWka4A ) and review who the author is and where their name is located on the book.
o Use the story mat attached to have your student retell the story.
o Have student work on the Kissing Hand booklet “Chester Felt…” and fill in the sentences “Chester was _____” and draw pictures of each day. This may be completed over the next 2 days. (Booklet will be sent home)
o Have student read leveled reader books with parent help if needed. (books will be sent home each week)
- Reading to self and parent: 30 minutes
o Students should be reading the provided leveled books at home for at least 30 minutes every day. This can be spread out throughout the day. Students should also be reading their leveled books to their parent or guardian at least 3 times a week.
Math Curriculum:
- Math: 20 minutes
o Review colors and shapes. In class, students will be sorting shapes in a large group setting but I will send a baggy of sanitized shapes home for the student to get familiar with.
o Have student work with tangrams on ABCYA. https://www.abcya.com/games/tangrams
Science/Social Studies Curriculum: taught biweekly
- Social Studies: 20 minutes
o Have your child walk around the house and identify their 5 favorite things about your home.
o Create a list of rules that they should follow while completing school at home with your child.
o Next, post the rules somewhere that they can see them every day while completing school work as a reminder that in any
community there are rules we have to follow.
o Mrs. Farr will send the list of rules that the class created on the following day.
I will have a sign-up sheet on Google Classroom for times to meet on Google Meet weekly so that I can check in with students and families. I will be teaching in the classroom during the day so these times will begin after 3:30.
1st Grade
Everyday- Math, Language Arts, and handwriting
Spelling will be 2-3 days a week
Science: 3-4 times a week
Social Studies: 3-4 times a week
Religion: 2-4 times a week except memory only on Fri.
Weekly - Shared Time and Pass Program
PACKET PICK FROM OFFICE ON FRIDAYS
Math should be a 15-20 minute lesson, work should take another 10-20
English will be a 20ish minute lesson, homework may take 20-25
Spelling will take a total of 15 minutes per lesson if not less
Phonics will be 15-20 minute lesson and work should be 20
Reading will be a total of 25-30 minutes including a recorded lesson and reading, some worksheets along the way.
Religion: use book, hear lesson and discussion on swivl and work through a few questions in packet together 25-30 mins. Memory verse Tues and Fri.
Science: recorded with smart board and swivl, often a sheet with a few questions that we will work through together 20-30 mins
Social Studies: read and discuss lesson ( swivl) some special units, sometimes a workbook page 20-30 mins
Shared Time -
Pass Program - 1 hour on Math and Language Arts each week
2nd Grade
Parents will pick up a packet Friday after school.
I'll use swivl during instruction and upload it.
Weekly - Shared Time and Pass Program
Math: every day about 30 mins made up of instruction and examples (smart board and swivl) independent practice on leaflet, and timed test (parent administered) Parents have online access.
Spelling: 2 pages in book a week and parent administered test about 10-15 mins, study for test, parent give Fri test
Reading: 4 days a week - hear teacher read story and listen to discussion, work through questions on swivl, read story to parent and record on reading log 1-1 1/2 hour also read for once a month book project and complete project
Shurley English: practice vocab, hear and practice lesson skill (smart board and swivl) hear and sing jingle, work some independently 30-40 minutes (Families have online access)
Handwriting: 2 pages per week about 10 minutes each
Religion: 2-4 times a week - use book, hear lesson and discussion on swivl and work through a few questions in packet together 25-30 mins. Memory verse Tues and Fri.
Science: 3-4 lessons a week ( I will mention the pages used on days there is in class work so that a parent can read it to them if they wish) recorded with smart board and swivl, often a sheet with a few questions that we will work through together 20-30 mins
Social Studies: 3-4 lessons a week, read and discuss lesson ( swivl) some special units, sometimes a workbook page 20-30 mins
Shared Time -
Pass Program - 1 hour on Math and Language Arts each week
3rd/4th Grade
Everyday- Math, English, Reading, Religion, Science, Michigan History (3rd only), United States Regions (4th only).
Monday & Thursday - Spelling Test on Friday
Monday & Thursday - Handwriting
Weekly - Shared Time and Pass Program
Math should be about 40 minutes each day. This includes reading the lesson and then completing the assignment.
English should be about 40 minutes each day. This includes reading the lesson and completing Shurley English worksheets.
Religion should be about 30 minutes each day. This includes reading bible passages, completing the lesson and studying for memory work.
Science should be about 25 minutes each day. This includes reading the lesson and completing the work in the workbook, completing the assigned packet work and completing the experiments in the packet or book.
Michigan History(3rd only) should be about 25 minutes each day. This includes reading from the textbook, watching a movie on Discovery Ed, and completing the assignments given or packets given. A project will be given later in the year and more information will be given at that time.
United States Regions(4th only) should be about 25 minutes each day. This includes reading from the textbook, watching a movie on Discovery Ed, and completing the workbook assignments or packets given. A project will be given later in the year and more information will be given at that time.
Reading should be about 25 minutes each day. This includes reading the material given, completing the vocabulary, phonics and comprehension assignments given in the packets.
Spelling should be about 20 minutes a day. This includes completing the activities in the workbook and practicing the words. The test can be completed on a separate sheet of paper and turned in when the lesson is complete.
Handwriting should be about 20 minutes a day. This includes practicing the letters given in the assignment.
Shared Time -
Pass Program - 1 hour on Math and Language Arts each week
These times are approximations that are given to help you plan your daily schedule. I will post assignments the night before on Gradelink, to be ready the next day. Packets will be available for pick up on Friday at 4:00pm. You can turn the completed packets/assignments in when you pick up your new ones. Math should be about 45 minutes of watching a lesson and then completing an assignment.
Language Arts should be about 45 minutes each day. This includes Shurley English worksheets, reading for book reports, and spelling packets.
Religion should be about 40 minutes each day. This includes Bible readings, answering questions, and studying for memory. There will be memory quizzes on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Science should be about 50 minutes each time. This includes reviewing class notes, reading from the textbook, and completing worksheets.
S.S./History should be about 50 minutes each time. This includes reading from the textbook, essay questions, workbook packets, and graphic organizers.
